Mahindra jeep, Open jeep, Mahindra Thar Interior………….The Mahindra Jeep The Mahindra Jeep :- The original CJ series Jeep was originated in America during the times of world war as a light 4×4 vehicle in early 1940’s.
The initial version was a very small cut chase kind of model. Initially this was used by Military. The name JEEP was derived from the name General Purpose (GP). Later GP became JEEP.
CJ stands for Civilian Jeep. Initially this vehicle was manufactured for military purposes. Later Willys-Overland manufactured the commercial version for the civilians. This was the world’s first commercially produced 4×4 off-road vehicle for civilians. This was very well accepted by the people.
Mahindra jeep, This vehicle was initially manufactured by Willys group , but later the same was licensed and manufactured by several manufacturers across the world like Mitsubishi, Ford, Chrysler, Mahindra & Mahindra and so many others. In India, this was initially assembled and later manufactured by Mahindra & Mahindra company.
Several models of the Jeep came into the market. The popular models were listed below.
CJ-1 –> 1944, produced approx – Unknown. This model was not successful CJ-2 –> 1944-45, Produced approx – 40. CJ-2A –> 1945-49, Produced approx – 214,760 CJ-3A –> 1949-53, Produced approx – 131,843 CJ-4 –> 1951, Produced approx -1. This was a proto-type model CJ-3B –> 1953-68, Produced approx – 196,000 CJ-5 –> 1955-83, Produced approx – 603,303 Mahindra Jeep’s story started very early in the year of 1954. The first model produced by Mahindra & Mahindra was CJ3B. CJ3B was not manufactured by Mahindra, it was only assembled by Mahindra. Later Mahindra started manufacturing their own engines and starting producing Jeeps.
The initial models of Jeep were with Petrol Engines. Later Mahindra started manufacturing Jeeps with Diesel Engines. Several engines were introduced by Mahindra like International Engine, DI, MDI, Turbo etc. The initial diesel engines were slow speed engines with 3 speed gears. Later they introduced high speed engine which is easy to maintain, very powerful, less polluting and fuel efficient. Jeep comes in 4×2 and 4×4 variants. Among these the 4×2 models were usually used in low and mid range areas and the 4×4 models are used in high ranges.
Jeep is not just a vehicle, it is a feel for everyone. During my childhood, Jeep and Ambassador were the only commonly available vehicles. Among these Jeep was the multi purpose vehicle which is capable of Passenger transport, Luggage movement, Off-road travel, Ambulance, School shuttle, Contract Carrier, Local Taxi etc. During old times, tar mac road was not common in the rural villages in India. This Jeep was the only capable vehicle that can reach anywhere without much hassles. There is not even a single person during 1990’s who has never traveled in a Jeep.
The Jeep is an economical vehicle. It is easy to maintain. This can be repaired by any local technician. Majority of the Jeeps were serviced by local technicians. Also the spare parts were commonly available in the market.
The old gen model of Jeep moved out of market in the year of 2010 due to safety standards. Still this legend lives in the heart of people. So many people are maintaining this vehicle in mint condition. The last released vehicle’s on the road price was approximately within 5-5.5 lakhs. Now the resale value of used jeep is more than this price. That is the demand.
For me the best and economical off-road vehicles manufactured by Mahindra are Jeep and Mahindra Thar DI variant. Both these vehicles are pocket friendly, easy to maintain and can climb any terrains.
Mahindra Thar Interior Mahindra Thar Interior Step into the cabin of the new Thar and there’s a marked difference compared to its predecessor. The dashboard design is uncomplicated and the touchscreen infotainment system mounted high brings the Thar’s cabin into the 21st century. A thick grab handle on the dash for the front passenger adds to the off-road appeal. The new instrument panel doesn’t quite have the same flair as the original’s, though it is uncluttered; the dials and MID are easy to read too.
Circular air-con vents sit almost at the edges of the dash while the central AC vents are situated below the 7.0-inch touchscreen. A rubber-lined cubby is placed just ahead of the gear lever.The power window switches have been placed between the front seats as the doors are removable.
Next to the small, lockable glovebox is a commemorative metal plaque with the car’s serial number on it. The large, tilt-adjustable steering unit gets buttons to operate the infotainment system and cruise control; those who own newer Mahindra cars will find them familiar. There are speakers mounted low on the dashboard on either side, as well as a set mounted on the roof just above the front seats.
Mahindra Thar Interior The new Mahindra Thar is far more comfortable than its predecessor buying there is still room for improvement. At the front, shoulder room is a bit tight and the footwell is narrow. However, the front seats are large and come with good side bolstering. The seat cushioning feels inconsistent though and a little lumpy. Getting to the rear seats is a bit of a chore. The front passenger seat folds to aid ingress but the entrance is quite narrow.
The 50:50 split-folding, forward facing rear seats, which are standard on the Thar LX and optional on the Thar AX, make for a significant improvement over the previous model’s side-facing seats but are not the last word in comfort. There’s only seating for two at the back and the seats themselves are too low-set, but legroom is adequate.
